LA County gas prices have biggest daily increase in nearly 2 months

LOS ANGELES – The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County recorded its largest daily increase since Oct. 30 today, rising 1.3 cents to $2.757.

The average price has risen six consecutive days, increasing 3.8 cents, including one-tenth of a cent on Tuesday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

State regulators say ‘puffs of gas’ at Aliso Canyon no cause for safety concern

State regulators were observing tests by the Southern California Gas Co. Tuesday after puffs of gas were discovered emanating from the site of the Aliso Canyon storage facility well responsible for the nation’s largest atmospheric natural gas release, officials said.

Southern California home sales jump 24%, but there’s a catch

Home sales in Southern California rose 24 percent in November from a year earlier as the market benefited from a couple of timing quirks, a research firm said Tuesday.

Sales made big annual gains in all six counties, said Irvine-based CoreLogic. Prices also rose.

Last month the region’s sales of new and previously owned houses and condominiums rose from 15,728 a year earlier to 19,530, the company said.

Southern California homebuying sees fastest November in four years

Southern Californians last month snapped up homes at the fastest November pace in four years, CoreLogic reported Tuesday.

The six-county region recorded 19,530 sales last month, up 24.1 percent vs. a year ago – the most-active November since 2012. However, house hunting has not returned to its historic pace.

Water main repairs close part of Topanga Canyon Boulevard through Thursday

Motorists will have to find alternate routes for a stretch of busy Topanga Canyon Boulevard in Canoga Park the next couple days thanks to a water main break, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

All northbound lanes of the roadway from Vanowen Street to Sherman Way will be closed through Thursday, the LADWP said in a statement Tuesday.

SoCalGas likens new methane detected at Aliso Canyon to ‘wisping vapors of a single table candle’

Southern California Gas Co. officials sought to allay concerns Monday about a “small amount" of methane seeping since Saturday from the vicinity of a plugged storage well near the San Fernando Valley that was responsible for the nation’s largest atmospheric release of natural gas.

SoCalGas spokesman Chris Gilbride said a “very slight and intermittent indication of methane" was detected Saturday morning near the SS-25 wellhead at the Aliso Canyon storage facility above the upscale Los Angeles community of Porter Ranch.
